Setting Up Flash Media Server 4.5 is much easier than it was in back in 2006. This is great for those that need to get familiar with Flash Streaming and would like to use Adobe’s platform. This will benefit many users that are familiar with streaming on Wowza Media Server. If you can create applications with Wowza Media Server then you’ll be able to them on Flash Media Server 4.5.

For basic set-up of Live Streaming and On-demand Streaming with a graphical user interface Flash Media Server 4.5 will great for users. More advanced concepts will be more challenging and will take more testing. I’ll be sharing my experiences as I get acclimated with Flash Media Server 4.5. This will be helpful for many, so stayed tuned.

Accordent Presenter Pro for Syncing Slides in Webcasts

Accordent Presenter Pro is a great solution for Syncing Slides in Webcasts. This webcast solution is a great route to go with if you have a large budget available and want to be finished once the webcast is over. Webcasting with Presenter Pro supports three flavors of streaming: Flash, Real Media and Windows Media.

Here are some things to keep in mind if you move forward with Syncing Slides in Webcasts with Presenter Pro:

  • You’ll convert your PowerPoint Slides prior to your webcast
  • A yearly support contract will be needed for Accordent Presenter Pro tech support
  • There is a little post clean up work that might be needed after the webcast
  • Someone will need to advanced through the slides to perform the Syncing.

Overall, budget and post webcast work will determine whether you’ll take the Accordent Presenter Pro approach.

Windows Media Encoder Handy for Compressing to WMV

Windows Media Encoder Handy for Compressing to WMV.  Even though this compression tool has been around for a while it’s free and might prove helpful for compressing .AVI files to .WMV files.  With Windows Media Encoder you can do a custom encode of source files for the compression. The encoding time will be based on how long your video files are. Creating .WMV files could be really useful if you’d like to import videos into a PowerPoint presentation.

Another Flash Media Player that Supports Wowza Media Server is HD Web Player.  This player also supports the following:

  • HTTP Streaming
  • RTMP and Live Streaming
  • YouTube Streaming
  • XML Playlists
  • Skinning
  • Autoplay
  • Skin Mode
