Class Summary:

This Video Streaming and Compression Training will help you with the overwhelming task of getting familiar with streaming and compression. Your instructor will guide you through the process of adding streaming video to your streaming server for delivery to computers, iOS devices and mobile devices.  Our training will give you a better understanding of streaming video, compression, real-time streaming, downloadable streaming, adaptive streaming, and Live streaming. You will learn important concepts and techniques for compressing your videos. Participants will be educated on how to convert videos to Windows Media, QuickTime, ProRes, WebM, H.264, VP9, and H.265. Students will become familiar with the various applications for compressing video for the web and streaming server delivery. This class is a great introduction for video professionals, IT Professionals, multimedia developers, web designers, government producers, educational professionals and other individuals that need to start adding video and audio content on-line. Day 1 of the Video Streaming and Compression Training focuses on video compression and preparing content in various formats and flavors for delivery streaming server and for file-based playback. During Day 2, students will get a better understanding of the web authoring process for delivering streaming videos. Also, participants will learn how to author streaming videos for Flash and HTML5 playback. Day 1 Overview – Compression and Encoding

1. Streaming and Compression Overview

Do you need a web server or streaming server to host your video content on-line? Are you putting downloadable streaming videos or real-time streaming videos on your website? Find out what will work best for your streaming needs. Learn the benefits of providing downloadable streaming, real-time streaming, adaptive streaming, or HTTP Live Streaming videos on your website. See how different streaming and compression tools can assist you in getting your streaming content on-line for desktops, iOS devices and Android devices. Also learn various Best Practices for Streaming and Compression

One of the most important elements of the video compression process is working with CODECs. Learn what CODECs are and which CODECs should be used when compressing to Windows Media, QuickTime, Flash, WebM and H.264. This class will help you understand how to choose the right Video and Audio CODECS for your projects. This class will also cover the differences between MPEG-4 Part 2 and MPEG-4 Part 10 (AVC/H.264). You also learn about CODECS and container formats used to delivery to HTML5 compatible browsers.

2. Overview of Streaming Media Formats

In this portion of the class we will go over the streaming formats and talk about the good and bad of each. We’ll cover QuickTime, Windows Media, H.264, Flash Video and WebM. Not only will you learn about each format’s advantages and disadvantages but you will learn first-hand which CODECS to use for you media projects in our hands-on training for Day 1.

3. Hands-on Compression with Sorenson Squeeze

Students will learn basic and advanced tips for encoding their videos with Sorenson Squeeze. Students will learn advanced tips for compressing H.264, QuickTime, Windows Media, and WebM videos using Sorenson Squeeze. Students will also learn how to create watch folders, trim videos, customize format compression settings, and customize filter settings. In this training section, class participants will also learn how to automate the process for uploading videos to a Streaming server or Website. Deinterlacing video and adjusting audio levels during encoding with Squeeze will also be covered in this training module.

4. Hands-on Compression for Delivery to iOS devices (iPhone and iPad)

Students will learn how to compress video content for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch using Sorenson Squeeze. Participants will also learn how to adjust their compression settings to get a high quality result by selecting the following: Frame Size, Datarate, Video CODEC, Audio CODEC and other settings properly. The authoring training portion of the class in Day 2 will teach students how to delivery their videos to iOS devices for On-demand and Live Streaming.

5. Hands-on Compression for Delivery to Android devices

With the popularity of Android devices, it’s essential to know how to prepare streaming content for these devices. Many individuals usually spend hours trying to understand how to get videos to playback on the various devices properly. This training will get you familiar with Android video delivery quickly. You’ll learn how to choose frame sizes, data rates, frame rates, and other compression settings for this type of delivery.

6. Encoding Videos for Downloadable Streaming and File-based Playback

You will encode videos for downloadable streaming in formats such as: QuickTime, H.264, Windows Media, WebM, and Flash Video. You will use tools such as Sorenson Squeeze to compress videos in class. This class will teach you how to get the quality you desire for your streaming videos by teaching you how to adjust the various compression settings. This portion of the training module will teach you how to take a compression preset and customize it for better quality.

7. Encoding for Real-time Streaming

This part of the class covers encoding real-time streaming files for Windows Media, Flash and H.264 files. Get familiar with available options within each codec is this training module. Also, learn how to take a compression preset and customize it for better quality using video encoding best practices.

8. Encoding for Adaptive Streaming

The industry has been revolutionized with the emergance of adaptive streaming. Now instead of users needing to choose at data rate when watching on-line videos, they can be automatically directed to the proper data rate for their bandwidth connection. One of the most important items to allow this experience to work is proper encoding, since you’ll have to encode to several data rates for each video. By taking this class, students will become very comfortable with compression for adaptive delivery.

9. Encoding for Tablets

In this portion of the training class you’ll learn the the process for compressing your videos to tablets such as Samsung, Galaxy, Amazon Kindle Fire and others. You’ll understand data rates, frame sizes and other settings that can be used for video delivery to tablets. Our instructor will give you a better understanding of how to prepare your video content for these types of devices.

Day 2 Overview – Authoring Streaming Video

1. Overview of HTML5 Compatible Web Browsers for Media Delivery

One of the most important items about streaming today is delivering your videos properly for HTML5 compatible browsers. You’ll learn about the codecs supported and how you’ll must encode your videos. You’ll learn what HTML5 formats are supported in the various available browsers.

2. Authoring Real-Time Streaming Videos

Students will compress to H.264 for real-time streaming video delivery using encoding presets. After encoding, students will embed videos in a web page and will author them for a downloadable streaming using the proper formating in the browser. Class participants will be educated on the process for authoring Flash real-time streaming videos for use with a Flash Streaming Server. Learn the proper parameters to input such as: RTMP, Server Name, Application Name, Instance Name and Stream Name.

3. Authoring Adaptive Streaming Videos

Students will compress to H.264, and Flash Video for real-time streaming videos using encoding presets. After encoding, students will embed videos in a web page and will author them for a downloadable streaming using the proper formating in the browser.

4. Streaming Video Playback on iOS Devices

Attendees will learn the streaming server and webpage set-up for delivering video to iOS devices such as iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Your instructor will walk you through the process hands-on and will allow you to ask questions about authoring for iOS devices.

5. Streaming Video Playback on Android Devices

Attendees will learn the streaming server and webpage set-up for delivering video to Android tablets. Your instructor will walk you through the process hands-on and will allow you to ask questions about authoring for Android devices.

6. Live Streaming Overview

This training module walks students through the Live Streaming set-up process and how it works. You’ll learn how the Live Encoder works with the Streaming Server and about software and hardware live encoding tools
