Wowza Streaming Engine Excites Streaming Industry.  Wowza Media Systems, LLC, provider of Simply Powerful Streaming media server software, recently launched its new Wowza Streaming Engine, the most flexible and extensible video streaming software on the market with more powerful performance capabilities and a new intuitive management interface for easily deploying, managing and monitoring live and video on demand (VOD) streaming to any device.

Simplified Streaming Software

The customizable and scalable Wowza Streaming Engine software is the newest version of the company’s industry leading server software, formerly known as Wowza Media Server, that powers reliable streaming of high-quality video in any format to any device for businesses ranging from the Fortune 100 to SMBs, nonprofits and educational institutions to government agencies. Nearly half of the leading Content Delivery Networks in the world rely on Wowza to deliver engaging, high-quality video to the widest range of viewing devices on the market.

“In the streaming business, Wowza Media Server was a revolution in efficiency, simplicity and scalability, enabling businesses of all types and sizes to reliably stream any media to any device with unprecedented control,” said David Stubenvoll, Wowza CEO and co-founder. “Now, we’ve taken everything you love about Wowza and made it better. Wowza Streaming Engine represents a new era in streaming with improved flexibility, performance, full MPEG-DASH support and enhanced live streaming technology to deliver the best possible viewing experience.”

Video is increasingly important for businesses in every industry. While more than 90 percent of marketers use video as part of their campaigns, technical issues are a major hurdle for nearly one-fourth of companies looking to integrate video into their outreach efforts. Wowza Streaming Engine resolves those challenges with flexible streaming software for live and VOD that’s compatible with virtually any streaming environment.

“Wowza Streaming Engine makes it easy to set up a video streaming server and to monitor and manage our streaming operation—including real-time server metrics like CPU, memory and disk usage—which saves us time and money,” said Kenny Griffin with ResortCams.com, which uses Wowza to stream live webcams from dozens of locations in the U.S. and in Costa Rica. “The ability to access the Streaming Engine manager on a tablet or smartphone means I can even check in on the system when I’m away from the office.”

ROKU Streaming Channels Continue to Grow

ROKU streaming channels continue to grow, which means that the delivery to this device will become commonplace.  What’s exciting is this continues to grow the use and need for streaming consulting services.  For clients providing on-demand streaming content they’ll need to plan for a large amount of encoding which allows content to be available at several different data rates for Adaptive Streaming.  Many on-demand content providers are beginning to remove older episodes of their video content from their websites and transitioning it to ROKU channels.  This is a great way to repurpose and  monitize video content.

In addition to On-demand Streaming channels, many Live Streaming channels are becoming available. For this year’s presidential inauguration I was able to watch it Live from the Wall Street Journal channel on my ROKU.  One of my favorite Live Streaming Channels is Time Warner which makes Live Streams of many of their channels available on the ROKU for their customers.

If you’d like to learn how you can create Live Streaming and On-demand Channels for the ROKU give us a call for consulting or to take a training class.  You can call Freeman Compression Inc. at 407.477.5837 for more information or e-mail us at info@freemancompression.com.  Contact us about training times for your country if you are an international student.

Mobile solutions from Limelight Networks combine device-optimized targeting with media-grade network scale and reliability. The services simplify mobile publishing by unifying multiple content types through a single Universal URL. Behind the scenes, intelligence built into the company’s XD Platform ensures that publishers’ media files are encoded correctly for almost any mobile or tablet display, and then delivered over the appropriate protocol to the device. This means content will play through HTML5 capable browsers, and also through other on-device applications such as widgets or media players. The technology is invisible to the end-user, presenting a brilliant experience on any device, at any time.

In addition to delivery, Limelight Networks will help publishers monetize their iPad content beginning on launch day. Through Limelight ADS, content publishers can maintain their existing advertising workflows while extending ad delivery to almost any new device.
