Wirecast vs Flash Media Live Encoder – Part 1

Posted by Derrick on May 17, 2013 under Video Streaming and Compression | Comments are off for this article

Wirecast vs Flash Media Live Encoder. Well there’s really no comparison when it comes to which one you should choose. Why? The reason is because one is free and the other has a cost associated with.

Flash Media Live Encoder is the free live encoder and is great if you’re looking for an encoder to encode to a Flash Streaming Server with the option to use On VP6 or H.264. What’s nice is you can actually choose your profile of Main or Baseline for H.264. You can also choose your level as well. In addition, users can send live streams using a web cam or digital video camera. This tool gives you access to several presets and allows you to customize some as well. It has a lot of the normal settings available in compression tools such as frame rate, resolution, bit rate, etc. The main item that’s lacking on the PC version is access to an AAC encoder for free. Although mp3 encoding is a option for free but this means nothing if you need to stream to Apple iOS devices and other devices which support H.264 playback. The best feature about this tool is that’s it free. Tune in for the next post when I’ll talk about the features of Wirecast.

If you’d like to learn more about live streaming give us a call to sign up to attend one of our Wirecast Live Streaming Trainings On-site, On-line or in Columbus, Ohio.
