H.264 Quality Based Encodes with Sorenson Squeeze

Posted by Derrick on September 12, 2010 under Video Streaming and Compression | Be the First to Comment

H.264 Quality Based Encodes with Sorenson Squeeze 6 will produce very nice video quality.  If you’re using the Apple H.264 codec available under the MPEG-4 .MP4 presets you can choose to do a Quality based encode instead of using a datarate value.  If you choose a Quality value of 5o this will produce great results with most sources but if you want to guarantee exceptional quality then chooose a Quality value of 75.  Keep in mind that both the Quality values of 50 and 75 will increase your overall video datarate and the Quality value of 75 more than doubles that of 50.   However, if you desire to make sure you achieve a certain quality level then these settings will do that.

Publishing Encoded Videos to Amazon Web Services with Sorenson Squeeze 6

Publishing encoded videos to Amazon Web Services with Sorenson Squeeze 6 will improve your compression workflows. If you have the Squeeze 6 – Amazon Web Services (AWS) Edition you can automatically have your encoded videos uploaded to your S3 Bucket on Amazon Web Services.  This is important because this improves upon most workflows which require manually uploading videos to your S3 bucket.

Here’s how to use Sorenson Squeeze 6 to work with Amazon Web Services S3.

To automatically upload your compressed output videos to your S3 bucket you’ll need your Bucket Name, Access Key and Secret Key. In Squeeze 6 copy the Amazon Web Services publishing preset and open it.   Add your bucket name in the dialog window that appears.  In this example the bucket name is streaming.samplebucket.  Next, type in your Amazon Web Sercvices Access Key and Secret Key in the dialog and click OK.

Finally, you can apply your Amazon Web Services publishing preset to your compression preset in the Squeeze 6 batch tree. You’ll notice from the image above that I’ve applied the Amazon Web Services Sample publshing preset to the CTSI_532k compression preset in the batch.  Once you apply your Amazon Web Services publishing preset you should see it displayed similar to what you see above.

Now you’re ready to start encoding.  After your videos are finished encoding they’ll be uploaded to the S3 bucket you’ve specified.
